Republican Chairman Blasts RI House Democrats for Denying Rhode Islanders Transparency in Government

Warwick, RI – Joe Powers, Chairman of the Rhode Island Republican Party, expressed profound disappointment today as House Democrats once again voted unanimously against the creation of an Office of Inspector General. This decision, reached along party lines, deprives Rhode Islanders of essential checks and balances within their local government. Despite widespread support for increased transparency and accountability, Democrats claim that funding is the primary obstacle.

“This decision leaves Rhode Islanders wondering: what are they hiding? What do they not want voters to see?” Chairman Powers remarked. “It’s reminiscent of the Wizard of Oz, where we’re being told to ‘pay no attention to the man behind the curtain.’ But Rhode Islanders deserve better than allowing a single party system that has kept RI at the bottom of rankings for business, education, places to retire, trust in local government and the Governors overall approval ratings, it’s pathetic”

The establishment of an Office of Inspector General would provide the necessary oversight to ensure that government actions align with the best interests of the constituents. This repeated dismissal of transparency raises significant concerns about the true motivations behind such decisions.

“Rhode Islanders deserve leadership with heart, brains, and courage,” Chairman Powers continued. “Come November, we have a chance to elect General Assembly members who will prioritize the values of transparency and accountability. We must take this opportunity to vote for Republican  representatives who genuinely serve the people’s interests.”

The Rhode Island Republican Party remains committed to advocating for transparency and accountability in government. The creation of an Office of Inspector General is a crucial step towards ensuring that elected officials are held accountable for their actions and decisions.
