RHODE ISLAND REPUBLICAN PARTY DEMANDS IMMEDIATE FIRING OF ASSISTANT AG FOR DISGRACEFUL CONDUCT

Warwick, RI — The Rhode Island Republican Party is calling for the immediate termination of Special Assistant Attorney General Devon Hogan Flanagan after her arrest in Newport for trespassing and her disgraceful, arrogant behavior toward law enforcement officers.

Bodycam footage revealed Flanagan berating local police, misrepresenting state law, and throwing around her title as though it placed her above accountability. Her behavior is a blatant example of entitlement and conduct unbecoming of a state employee, especially one entrusted with upholding the law.

“Isn’t it the Democrats who constantly cackle, ‘No one is above the law’? Well, now it’s time for them to put up or shut up,” said RI Republican Party Chairman Joe Powers. “If they truly believe their own rhetoric, this Assistant AG should be fired immediately. Anything less is proof positive that Democrats only apply the law to political opponents, never to themselves.”

Chairman Powers also praised the professionalism of the Newport Police officers who handled the situation. “These officers showed the restraint, poise, and integrity that Ms. Flanagan clearly lacked. They did their job with honor while she played the role of a spoiled elitist. That’s the difference between real public servants and self-absorbed politicians’ appointees.”

Flanagan, demanding that police turn off their cameras, threatening officers with her title, and attempting to skirt the law, should disqualify her from serving in the Attorney General’s office.

“The arrogance on display here is exactly what Rhode Islanders are sick of. This wasn’t just bad judgment, it was willful disobedience, misrepresentation of the law, and the ugly face of a ruling class that thinks they’re smarter, better, and more important than the people they serve,” Powers continued. “And the lack of decisive disciplinary action from the Attorney General’s office is all too familiar. It’s reminiscent of Governor McKee’s so-called ‘Day of Reckoning’ on the Washington Bridge fiasco where accountability never came. ZERO. Rhode Islanders are fed up with leaders who shrug, stall, and do nothing.”

Beyond this single incident, the damage is already done. Flanagan’s credibility with law enforcement across Rhode Island has been shattered, and she has lost the confidence of the public. That loss of trust does not stop with her, it extends to the entire Attorney General’s office. Only decisive action can begin to repair the damage and restore faith in the integrity of the institution.

Powers didn’t hold back on the bigger picture either, “Once again, Rhode Island is making national headlines and not for the right reasons. Instead of being known for our history, culture, or innovation, we’re being branded as a national disgrace, thanks to the Democrat Party’s arrogance and incompetence. Is this really what we want to be known for?”

The Rhode Island Republican Party calls on Attorney General Peter Neronha to take swift and decisive action. Anything short of immediate termination would send the message that the Democrat establishment believes some people are, in fact, above the law.
