Republican Party of Rhode Island Mourns The Passing Of Life Long RI Republican, Scott Bill Hirst

The Republican Party of Rhode Island mourns the passing of one of our most dedicated and respected members, Scott Bill Hirst, a lifelong resident of Hopkinton and a true public servant in every sense of the word.

Born June 30, 1953, at Westerly Hospital, Scott was the eldest son of Robert Scott Hirst, Ashaway’s longest-serving Postmaster, and Ruth (Bill) Hirst. He was a proud product of Hopkinton’s local schools, earned his Associate’s Degree in Liberal Arts from Rhode Island Junior College (now CCRI), and went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University of Rhode Island.

Scott served multiple terms on the Hopkinton Town Council, including as Vice President, and was a tireless advocate for his community. His leadership style was principled, humble, and always focused on doing what was right for the people he served. In addition to his local contributions, Scott also represented Rhode Island as an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1992, 1996, and 2012, further demonstrating his lifelong commitment to Republican values.

Scott was active in numerous civic and fraternal organizations, including the Freemasons, Elks, Knights Templar, Odd Fellows, and the Grange. He was a familiar face and a trusted voice in Rhode Island politics for decades, known for his sharp insight, quiet strength, and steadfast dedication to the cause of good governance.

Scott was not only a staple of the Hopkinton community—he was a fixture within the Rhode Island Republican Party. His legacy is one of service, integrity, and unwavering loyalty to both his hometown and our shared conservative principles. His passing is a loss not just to his family and neighbors, but to the entire Republican family across our state.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Scott’s loved ones and the residents of Hopkinton. We will share details regarding services and ways to honor his memory in the days to come.

Scott Bill Hirst will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. His contributions to Rhode Island and to the Republican cause will live on as a testament to a life well lived in service to others.
